your cruise line would be the best to ask. you have plenty of time to get your passport and it's a good thing to have even when traveling within your home country. it gives you a back-up if your wallet is stollen (provided you kept it in a place different than your wallet). the last thing you want to do is get stuck not able to get home.

check the entry requirmements for the country you are going to at:

http://travel.state.gov/travel/tips/brochures/brochures_1229.html

new requirements going into effect at the end of this year:

New Requirements for Travelers

The Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 requires that by January 1, 2008, travelers to and from the Caribbean, Bermuda, Panama, Mexico and Canada have a passport or other secure, accepted document to enter or re-enter the United States. In order to facilitate the implementation of this requirement, the Administration is proposing to complete it in phases following a proposed timeline, which will be published in the Federal Register in the near future.

In the proposed implementation plan, which is subject to a period of initial public comment, the Initiative will be rolled out in phases, providing as much advance notice as possible to the affected public to enable them to meet the terms of the new guidelines. The proposed timeline will be as follows:

December 31, 2006 - Requirement applied to all air and sea travel to or from Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda.

December 31, 2007 - Requirement extended to all land border crossings as well as air and sea travel.

This is a change from prior travel requirements and will affect all United States citizens entering the United States from countries within the Western Hemisphere who do not currently possess valid passports. This new requirement will also affect certain foreign nationals who currently are not required to present a passport to travel to the United States. Most Canadian citizens, citizens of the British Overseas Territory of Bermuda, and to a lesser degree, Mexican citizens will be affected by the implementation of this requirement.

best advice - get a passport!

good luck

It depends on where you are going and what country you are from.

If you are from the US and are doing the Caribbean most countries do not require them. The same is true in Mexico & Canada.

Everyone really should have a passport. As the laws toughen up you will need them for everywhere.

It depends upon where you are going. But you will need some valid identification for the ship. The shipline can answer your question and also, if you booked through a travel agent they too will have the answer,

If you booked on the Internet - Good luck for any information - nobody to talk to.

Enjoy your cruise I have been on over 100 and can't wait for my next one.

It depends where you are going, but you probably need them. Just make sure your passport is good for at least 6 months past your last day of the vacation.

Get your passports. YOu probably won't need them but they are great to have around. They are good for 10 years. It will only take a month or so and is so worth it to have them. It means you can travel and not have to worry about it.
