Here's what Royal Caribbean has on its web site about employment on its ships (here's a link :https://jobs.rccl.com/jobs/rccl_jobs.nsf/shipboard ) :
" What if the position I`m interested in doesn`t appear on this website?
If the position you are seeking isn`t listed on this website, please locate the hiring partner nearest you by clicking on this link: Hiring Partners and contact their office directly. When you submit your application to the hiring partner, please include in your resume your relevant experience, provide details regarding the size of the operations in which you`ve worked (i.e. number of rooms at the hotel, average number of guests at the restaurant/onboard the ship and if you have previous shipboard experience).
Are there any specific language requirements to be able to work onboard?
Every shipboard employee must proficiently and clearly speak, read, and write English. Further, because of our international guests and exciting itineraries, it is helpful if you speak additional languages, including (but certainly not limited to): Italian, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, and Mandarin.
What are the hiring requirements for working onboard?
If you are a U.S. resident of Citizen or Canadian citizen, you would need a passport that is valid for two or more years; otherwise, you would need a valid passport for your country, and you would also need to be able to obtain a C1D visa, and other relevant transit visas (depending on the country where you would join the ship). You would also need to successfully complete a thorough medical clearance and background screening; the paperwork explaining the details for these two requirements will be presented to you once you have accepted an offer from us. Please note that you will be responsible for costs related to your medical evaluation and visa application(s).
Approximately how long would I be onboard for an assignment?
A shipboard career is for those adventurers who are interested in exploring new places and meeting new people, for individuals who understand that they will be away from their homes for long periods of time. Assignments are determined by position and can range (on average) between six to eight months working onboard, with six to eight weeks of vacation time. (Senior hotel officers typically have four-month assignments, followed by eight weeks of vacation; marine officers assignments are generally fourteen weeks onboard followed by fourteen weeks vacation time; vacation period for entry-level marine officers is seven weeks.) Working and living in close proximity with your colleagues will take some adjusting, especially in the first six to eight weeks. This is an excellent opportunity to develop strong friendships with fun and interesting people from all over the world.
How is the work environment onboard?
It`s an energetic, guest-focused environment. With an average of more than 2,500 guests onboard your particular ship, it`s an opportunity to contribute to the success of a world-class operation, while enriching your own experience. Though it can be very rewarding, it can also be challenging, and it will probably take some time to acclimate to the pace of it all. Because it`s a 24-hour operation, you can expect to work long hours seven days a week. Time off is limited, even while the ship is in port. Additionally, in order to ensure that everyone is familiar with safety procedures (in the case of an emergency), you will be expected to participate in relevant training sessions and drills.
How are the living accommodations?
The crew quarters are designed to maximize space efficiency. Each cabin has a bathroom and a television. For all positions outside those of senior management, it`s most likely that you will share a cabin with one other person, possibly of a different nationality. Space is limited within the cabins, however, there are many crew areas that provide opportunities for you to relax and interact socially with colleagues.
Are there opportunities for promotion/career advancement?
We strongly believe in career development. However, as expected, promotions are based on merit/performance, and fair consideration of the relevant requirements. It`s very important that when you apply for a position (and when you are ready to accept an assignment) with the shipboard team, you are committed to that particular career opportunity.
Please do not expect that you will be promoted or transferred from that position within your first assignment, since generally the opportunity for transfer or promotion is not available until you have successfully completed at least one assignment onboard.
What should I take with me, when I travel to join the ship?
You would be encouraged to travel lightly, as space is limited within the cabins. You should take clothing and personal essentials, as well as money in U.S. dollars, for travel expenses until you reach the ship and earn the first p
